More information:
The handle of these eco-friendly floss picks is made of 100% compostable bioplastic and manufactured with starch-based resins that utilize locally sourced
crops like corn, wheat, tapioca, and potatoes. Some so-called 'bio-plastics' are simply petroleum plastic with an
additive that allows quicker disintegration.
This natural dental product is made of wholly compostable materials
and is free of BPA, phthalates and other potentially harmful toxins.
This product meets world standards of biodegradability and compostability in Europe and the US. The resins used are certified as renewable, ecologically
sound substitutes for petroleum-based plastic products.
These compostable floss picks are durable and should last as long as the traditional petroleum plastic
version. However, do not expose this product to excessive
heat, as this could cause it to deform slightly.
About compostability:
In order to achieve "compostable" certification, a plastic product must
decompose within 60 to 180 days in a commercial compost facility.
Unlike materials designated as biodegradable, those certified as
compostable are designed to compost quickly without releasing any toxic
residues.
Ideally we suggest a commercial composting facility for our eco-friendly flossers however, the compostable bioplastics used will also
biodegrade in your home or backyard composter, it will just take a
little longer (depending upon ambient temperatures and insolation).
While we don't encourage it, you can also dispose your compostable floss picks into your regular garbage - it will eventually breakdown into
humus and water.
